Winona Laura Horowitz, professionally referred to in the media as Winona Ryder was born in Winona Minnesota. Her parents named their daughter the city she grew up in after her birthplace. Michel Horowitz was her father and Cynthia Palmer, his mother who were both authors as well as editors. Ryder is Jewish. Ryder believes that her father had her Jewish background.
